The Nigerian ‘Japa’ Reality: Understanding the Impact of Migration on Families
24 February 2025The BanStopPrevent Mental Health Advocacy Project recently presented its preliminary findings, which aim to eradicate harmful mental health practices in rural Nigerian communities. The pilot study conducted by Walk347 and NAS Magna Carta focused on engaging traditional and spiritual healers, community leaders, and residents to promote safer mental health practices.
This hybrid event was held online, in the UK at the University of Northampton and in Nigeria at the Abia Skills Development Centre. The BanStopPrevent project team shared preliminary key insights about community openness to modern treatments, awareness of safer alternatives, and the role of healers in shaping mental health attitudes.
